1936 Perimeter Playgrounds Built
Seventeen playgrounds are built in the marginal landscapes inside the perimeter of the Park. Playgrounds are paved with asphalt and typically include slides, swings, seesaws, playhouses, sand tables, and benches.
“It is to be assumed that these little areas, 200 feet by 100 feet, will intercept the little potential destroyers on the perimeter of the park, and so while providing play attractions for them will protect the natural beauty of the greater areas within.”
The New York Times, 1936
